Nasty Women exhibiton

Hi everyone! If you have been following my blog, then you would know that I had artwork up at the Nasty Women exhibition at Constellations just over two weeks ago! So I promised you lot that as well as writing about the Rising Sirens event, that I would fill you in on the boss event that was this one! 😀

But first, seeing as this is a fashion blog after all, I might as well put up a few pictures of my hair and make-up!

loandbehold003loandbehold002

  1. Headband, Claire’s Accessories
  2. Earrings, Forever 21
  3. Stripy t-shirt, Primark
  4. Vintage Levi’s denim jacket, Quiggins/Grand Central
  5. Hoodie, Primark
  6. Dungaree dress, Primark
  7. Tights, Primark
  8. Vans trainers, Schuh

With my look, I was inspired by punk music, hence why I decided to style my hair into an ’emo’ look, throw my Vans on but wear super-colourful accessories and make-up! (You will be happy to know that my eyeshadow skills are improving, if only slightly! But hey, practise does make perfect!) I also wanted to throw on my vintage denim jacket to throw the entire look together 🙂

Not only was I feeling myself, a lot of the people who attended the event were very stylish as well! Three people in particular were owning it; Cynthia (@cynthiaatmm) and Lo (@queenlogreen), who were two of the event organisers, as well as Cynthia’s brother David (@dxvid.97)!

Girls, if you’re reading this, I hope you like the illustrations! 🙂

In addition to the fabulous stylish people on show, the artwork was great! A few of my favourites are below, alongside their Instagram profiles so you can follow them if you like their work! #supportlocalartists ❤

Overall, the Nasty Women exhibition launch was amazing! If I gave the show out of 10, it would be an 11! Amazing people, brilliant artwork and a lovely atmosphere means that it was certainly an iconic night! ❤

Hope you all enjoyed this post!

Rising Sirens #1

Hi everyone! Sorry it’s been so long but I’m back with a brand new post!

As you all know, a few weeks back I was at the first Rising Sirens event that took place at the Reeds on London Road, I was one of the many artists selling their work and running workshops!

Here’s what I wore for the event!

loandbehold001

  1. Sunglasses – H&M
  2. Earrings – Forever 21
  3. Leotard (worn as a shirt) – Primark
  4. Vintage Levi’s demin jacket – Quiggins/Grand Central
  5. Skirt – COW
  6. Tights – Primark
  7. Wellies – from a gift shop back in 2009 lol

My denim jacket also had lots of badges and pins on from various places and events. I was going to sketch these but I thought it would make a lot more sense to put a photo of them up in their full glory!

IMG_20180305_112823323

I’m going to be quite honest, I didn’t manage to get many photos or videos of the event because I was busy helping with running the event smoothly and then I got very drunk afterwards! Your pal has gotta let their hair down! However all of the bands were absolutely fantastic and at the end, lots of money was raised for the chosen charities which were RASA Merseyside and the Homeless Period Liverpool!

To anyone from the event reading this, I just want to say thank you all for inviting me to take part in such a wonderful event and I’m very much looking forward to Rising Sirens #2!

OOTW

OOTW – Outfit of the Week!

Hi everyone! I haven’t posted as much as I’d have liked to this week because as a freelance illustrator, I’ve been commissioned with so many projects! Which is exciting, of course, but it’s made me neglect this blog a little bit so I apologise!

(Also, on a side note, one of the projects is an art event that me and two friends are setting up to coincide with International Women’s Day 2018… watch this space!)

However, I thought if I’m being a busy bee this week, I might as well be a busy bee with style! So all of my outfits have been fairly relaxed but still eccentric enough to make an impact!

This outfit, however, was my absolute favourite this week

ootw

I love it because I took a risk with my personal style. That is because I hardly ever wear black, so to make the main part of my outfit black felt a bit scary! At first I thought ‘how the hell am I gonna make this colourful?!’ but then breathed a sigh of relief when I remembered that’s why accessories were invented! Thank god!

Here’s every part my outfit, enjoy!

  1. Scarf (worn as a headband) – Oxfam.
  2. Earrings – Forever 21.
  3. Scarf – H&M. This was featured in my last OOTW but I love it! It’s perfect for winter!
  4. Stripy dress (worn as a top) – Asda. I got this back in 2010 so it’s an oldie but a goodie!
  5. Dungaree dress – Primark. Again, this was featured in my previous OOTW but I was a bit bloated so needed something loose to feel comfy, don’t judge!
  6. Tote bag – Accessorize. This bag is actually 7 years old! I bought it back in 2011 but the quality is amazing and it’s waterproof!
  7. Bracelets – Primark.
  8. Pink bangle – ABC L1. My friend Lis runs this quirky little vintage shop where I bought this from! If you want to check out this hidden gem, it’s located at the bottom of Victoria St opposite the Shankly Hotel and you can follow their Facebook here!
  9. Tights – Primark
  10. Wellies – In a gift shop in Devon, haha! Back in 2009 me and my family all went on a two week holiday there alongside my aunty Sue, uncle Jimmy and our cousin Jessica. The entire trip was sunny except for one day when it was rainy, so mum took us the nearest shop and got us all a pair of wellies. I picked this pair because the pattern was colourful and looked like Smarties!

And that, pals, is my outfit of the week! ❤

How To's

How To: Create the Perfect Cat-Eye Makeup!

What would you get if you asked my closest friends what my most distinguishing feature would be? Would they say I had a fabulous bum like Kim Kardashian? Sadly not! Would they tell you I had a freckle that resembled a love heart? As if! (Even though it would be boss!)

Nope, my lovely pals would let you all know that I have the most perfect eyeliner skills ever possessed by a human! And believe me, that’s not me tooting my own horn because my make up skills are otherwise crap – I over-line my lips because I can’t be bothered with lip fillers and my eyeshadow blending skills are pretty non-existent. However, if there’s one thing I’m god damn good at, it’s getting my eye liner perfect! I’ve been doing my own eyeliner since I was in nappies, so I might as well pass my nuggets of wisdom onto you lot by showing you how you can apply your eyeliner perfectly!

You can either go one or two ways of getting your eyeliner perfect, so I’ll show you both 🙂

Method 1: The Steady Hand

You will need:

  • A liquid eyeliner (I use Collection Eye Definition Liquid Eyeliner, £2.99 from most beauty shops but any liquid eyeliner will do!)
  • Lots of patience!

This sounds complicated so I apologise but believe me, once you see the pics below I swear you’ll get the hang of it in no time! 🙂

  1. Draw a line just above the eye line. Try not to draw it on too fast, as you might muck up! As they say, slow and steady wins the race, but even if you do muck up, there’s always skin moisturiser and cotton buds so you can wipe it off and always try again! 🙂eyeliner 1
  2. Fill the gap between the drawn line and your eye line in with the eyeliner, like in the picture below.eyeliner 2
  3. Draw a little tiny flick on the side of your eye.eyeliner 3
  4. Join it up to the filled-in part.eyeliner 4
  5. Colour that shit in!eyeliner 5
  6. Aaaaand you’re done! Now go and show the world who’s the baddest bitch! ❤eyeliner c

If you haven’t got it perfect straight away, don’t worry! The first time I attempted it I was crap! However as I kept practising, I improved so much I quickly transformed into the eyeliner queen you see today!

Here’s another method if you don’t have any spare time to practise your eyeliner skills just yet!

Method 2: The Masking Tape Hack

You will need:

  • Liquid eyeliner
  • Masking tape (a small bit will do!)
  1. Go through the first two steps from method 1.
  2. Place some of masking tape on the side of your eye, tilting it a bit like in the picture below.eyeliner a
  3. Fill in the area between the eyeliner and the masking tape.eyeliner b
  4. Take off the masking tape and viola! You’re done!eyeliner c
  5. Again, go and show the world who’s the baddest bitch! ❤

I hope the instructions have helped you improve your eyeliner skills! Now I wanna know what eye make up you enjoy doing the best, and maybe you’s can teach me a thing or two about make up in the comments below! :’)

Love you’s! ❤

‘Thresholds: The Adjacent Possible’ exhibition summary + Street Style!

On Friday night, me and my friends Becky and Laura had the pleasure of visiting the opening night of ‘Thresholds: The Adjacent Possible’, which is held at The Tapestry and run by Not Just Collective! I was already excited because our mate, the fabulous illustrator Sasha Spyrou (@anotherrrealm on Instagram), had her photography exhibited at the show alongside many other talented artists!

Now I can guess what you’re wondering… “Why the hell is Lo And Behold talking about a bloody art show when she’s meant to be a fashion blog?” Well, hold your horses! I’ll tell you why now! Well, basically not only was there cool artwork, I managed to spot a few people who were sporting some STRONG looks! I mean, fashion inspiration comes from everywhere doesn’t it, not just the catwalk!

Becky (left) was a little bit later than me and Laura, but honest to god when she arrived I thought bloody hell girl you’re serving 80’s witchy realness right there 😀 Her Instagram is @rebeccagladams, which features her incredible illustrations and strong make up looks! 🙂

Nikki (right), who was running the exhibition, looked cool as well! As I said in my previous post, if I was an animal then I would be a parrot because I live for colour! Her Instagram is @spells_against_civilisation, which features her brilliant and thought-provoking artwork as well as updates about the current exhibition!

Seeing as I’m talking about an art exhibition, I might as well put up some photies of some of my personal favourites from the show! (Word of warning though, I’m not a photographer so the quality of some of these pics might be a bit shocking, I apologise in advance!) :’)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As you can see from the slideshow, there is a wide variety of artworks on show and what I photographed was only a small selection as the exhibition was HUGE!

‘Thresholds: The Adjacent Possible’ is currently on at The Tapestry (12-14 Gildart St, Liverpool, L3 8ET) and is open 11am-6pm every day until Sunday 18th February.

OOTW · What's In My Bag

OOTW (Outfit of the Week) + What’s in My Bag

Hi everyone!!! I thought I would make my first OFFICIAL post as two posts in one because I love you all!

So I thought I’d post a OOTD post as well as a What’s In My Bag post!

What’s In My Bag

Last week I went into Primark to get myself some new tights. Not only did I get those tights, I also got an eyebrow pencil (this was a necessary purchase) AND a brand new bag! Treat yo self ❤

The bag I bought was G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S because it was see-through and had a holographic detail to it, very 90’s, I thought wow it’s small enough to look cute and yet large enough for all of my everyday stuff!

The only thing was though… it wasn’t just any bag it turned out I had bought a make up bag! Hahah! Still, I’ve still used it as a regular bag and I have received many compliments off it 🙂

Also because I’m an art nerd I just HAD to doodle it!

What's in my Bag 6.2.18

Make-up bag, £6, Primark

Aaaaand this is all the stuff I carry in my gorgeous bag!

What's in my Bag 6.2.18 2.jpg

  1. Small pouch – I went through a phase in like 2011 where I wanted to be as indie as possible and buy all my stuff from Etsy! Sadly I can’t remember the shop I got it from but it’s come in so handy and I still use it to keep small things in so they don’t get lost in my bag (e.g. USB stick, card reader etc).
  2. Purse – Again, I bought this purse back in 2011 from an Etsy shop! I wish I remember where I bought it from for the life of me! In my purse I carry my every day make up like my NYX matte lippy (Bedtime Flirt obv), nail polish for any emergency touch-ups and my compact mirror.
  3. Purse – I bought this in late 2016 because my old purse was getting quite tatty (it wasn’t the Etsy purse, it was another one!) and I needed something new!
  4. Pencil case – As an artist, I’m always drawing so I always take my pencil case with me! I bought this particular one from Paperchase because I thought it was funny.
  5. Lunch box, with lunch in it obv – Instead of buying food when I’m out I always make my lunch at home and then bring it into work! I started doing this in late 2016 and I’ve saved so much money ever since!
  6. Banana.
  7. BO spray.
  8. Phone charger.
  9. Apple.
  10. Notebook – I bought a notebook in mid 2016 from Paperchase which had a detachable cover on it, which was this parrot cover! So it meant that if I filled an entire notebook up, I’d take it out of the cover and put a new notebook in! So handy and besides if I was an animal I’d be a colourful parrot because colourful parrot is my AESTHETHIC! ❤
  11. Diary – I bought this from Paperchase a few months back but for the life of me I can’t remember how much it cost. I think it was around £6-7 but I’m not sure! I fell in love with it though because it had pineapples on it :’)

Outfit of the Week!

My favourite outfit of the week is!….(drum roll)……

OOTD 6.2.18

  1. Headband, Primark.
  2. Glasses, H&M (I know, I’m a poser but to be fair I look cute af with them on!)
  3. Earrings, H&M (They’re much more burgundy irl.)
  4. Scarf, H&M (I bought this in like 2013 but there are loads of these types of scarves in a lot of shops these days! I’m sure I saw one in Primark the other week.)
  5. Ring, Etsy.
  6. Jumper, COW Liverpool.
  7. Dungaree dress, Primark.
  8. See through spotty tights, Primark.
  9. Shoes, Primark.

I have to warn yous though, I bought a lot of this stuff years ago so they might not be in the shops anymore! (With the exception of the earrings and the tights maybe). However, if you like this look then you can always find similar stuff in town! 🙂

I picked this outfit as OOTW because even though it’s quite a subtle look for me, it’s comfy af and it’s a quick look to throw together when I’m in a rush. However, I love that I avoided looking scruffy by putting on a number of accessories like my headband and earrings to really dress up my outfit, as well as my mustard yellow scarf as I feel like it helps complement out the autumn colour scheme perfectly!

What’s been your OOTW? I wanna see in the comments below! ❤

About

First post

Hi everybody!!!

I’m Lois Tierney, and I am freelance illustrator based in Liverpool, UK! I am also the owner of this fashion blog! As you can see, I’m a larger-than-life eccentric who absolutely loves fashion and dressing up, so I decided to set up Lo And Behold because I thought it would be a cool idea to showcase the very best of Liverpool fashion through art!

My posts will either usually focus on OOTD (outfit of the day), cool yet affordable purchases I’ve made, fashion tips, street style as well as much more! I hope to show off not only my style, but also the most unique fashions around Liverpool! I would also like to celebrate individuality and spread nothing but positivity through this blog, and I hope you all get to join this sweet experience with me! 🙂
